Cargo Space is a mobile curatorial project that transforms rented box trucks into rotating contemporary exhibition spaces. By activating unexpected locations across the county, Cargo Space invites artists and audiences to reconsider how art occupies public and in-between spaces. Through open calls and invited projects, it serves as a platform for experimental, community-centered exhibitions that reflect the diverse cultural landscape of Miami.
Inspired by the Miami-Dade Public Library’s Artmobile program from the 1970s–90s, Cargo Space continues this lineage of public, mobile art experiences reshaping how contemporary art circulates through the city.
Cargo Space transforms mobility into a curatorial tool. We activate rented box trucks and public spaces to bring contemporary art into everyday environments. Our mission is to connect artists, audiences, and neighborhoods through mobile exhibitions that challenge where and how art can exist.
Founded and directed by artist Ana Vergara, Cargo Space extends her artistic inquiry into urban transformation, materiality, and collective experience. As both artist and curator, Vergara works through observation and collaboration, bridging the textures of Miami’s built environment with the intimacy of community-driven art encounters. Cargo Space reflects her ongoing commitment to creating spaces that are experimental.
Andrés Pérez — Driver & Technical Lead
With professional CDL experience and a background in entrepeneuralship, Andrés Pérez oversees the safe operation, mobility, and technical coordination of Cargo Space’s mobile exhibitions. His expertise ensures that each activation runs smoothly—from navigating Miami’s streets to assisting in installation and transport. Pérez’s precision and adaptability are central to transforming each truck into a functioning exhibition space on wheels.
Cargo Space is made possible through the support of the FIU Ratcliffe Art + Design Incubator Fellowship, a program that nurtures creative entrepreneurs working at the intersection of art, design, and innovation. This partnership provides the framework and resources for Cargo Space to develop sustainable, artist-led models of exhibition making.
